WORK IN PROGRESS

Bristol Townhouse

Our brief for this grand terrace in Bristol was to bring a unique contemporary feel and function to the historic context of the Grade II listed home.

Spanning five floors, we were tasked with a full design of the open plan kitchen and dining area, reception rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms.

Though primarily an interior design project, we also developed and managed the listed building consents with our architects, including liaison with a structural engineer for advice on how the existing fabric could best be altered to enable our design.

Whilst the bones of the building are sound and original Georgian features run throughout, the house was in need of a respectful refresh with a unique interior scheme that suits our client’s excellent taste.

The walls and floors are being renewed with beautiful raw materials of ash, handmade tiles and mineral paint. Locally hand made bespoke joinery and iconic, timeless pieces of furniture, lighting and art will finish the look and feel of their new home.

A large master suite with bathroom now occupies the front of the townhouse, previously a poorly partitioned space, limiting daylight and giving no principle bedroom to the townhouse. The bed now overlooks the original three sash windows and the treescape beyond.

The new ensuite bathroom borrows some space from the previously oversized family bathroom which still houses a bath and walk-in shower. Both are full of tactility and character.

On site January 2025.
